Kensington Design took some time off last week to check out the exhibition currently showing at the design museum … below is a summary of a couple of things we loved…
Digital Crystal Swarovski @ The Design Museum – 05 September – 13 January 2013
This eve-changing, digitally-programmed installation repeatedly deconstructs and recreates the familiar form of a chandelier. As almost 2000 suspended Swarovski crystals move in different directions, their reflective and refractive qualities are brought to life. Frefrikson Stallard’s explosive piece is more emotional than functional, delivering the unconventional spectacle of a chandelier without using a single shining light.
Yves Behar and fuseproject spark memories of traditional large-scale chandeliers using just one crystal, one low-energy LED light and one faceted paper shade. Seeking maximum effect with the minimum amount of materials and energy, each shape is crafted to maximise refraction within the shade, giving the appearance of individual glowing crystals.
